The Diary of Sir Socks Le Chat

My girl (Ali Noel Vyain) recently found my diary. We have decided to release it into the world. It will be available as an ebook, but not until after it’s first serialized via Patreon. My diary features my thoughts, feelings, opinions and why I wrote my memoirs.

Just a little sample:
Entry 1
I’m just a kitten. My name is Socks. I have a mom Ramadon and three brothers: Paintbrush, Inky and Spitter. We play everyday. Life is nice here.

Just one thing puzzles me. I know I don’t know much. I keep asking my mom questions and she answers what she can. So, I keep seeing these beings of light. They are sparkly and have wings. They fly around me and sprinkle dust on me. They laugh and dance.

Who are they? What do they want with me?

If you would like to support our mission, please consider doing any or even all of the following:
*Spread the word about this magazine to others.
*Order any of the Cat Tales books from your local library.
*Buy copies of any of the Cat Tales books from the store of your choice.
*Subscribe to Sir Socks’s girl Ali’s Patreon account. Currently features The Diary of Sir Socks Le Chat before it’s available in ebook format. Cost is $5 per month for a basic account and $9 per month for voting and requests. (She is the one who does the most work to keep this magazine running as Sir Socks would like it to. If you support her, you are supporting Sir Socks and his mission as well.)

Request for Support

I see we now have quite a few email subscribers now. For that I am a happy cat. Although with my original mission of this magazine, I don’t think it’s quite enough. I still want to support animal charities and pay the writing staff and others for their contributions to my magazine.

To do that, I need your help. Of course one of the biggest ways to support without money is by spreading the word and telling others how much you like my magazine. If you can’t afford to support us with money, then you can also order any of the books via your local library. If your library has Overdrive, I’d recommend the free Libby Overdrive app to read the books anywhere you find yourself.

If you are able, you may buy copies of the Cat Tales books listed on our Cat Tales page. Some books support specific charities or the actual writers. If a charity is supported, it is listed in the book’s description. Or you may sign up to make a regular donation every month via my girl’s Patreon account. The lowest tier is US$5 per month. Depending upon which tier you choose, you might be able to influence the content of this magazine. I know my girl will take any requests seriously and do her best to make them a reality.

In case you’re wondering, when you support my girl you also support me, Sir Socks. Unfortunately cats don’t usually have money. My girl tends to have more than I do and doesn’t mind sharing with me.

A Message From Sir Socks Concerning COVID-19

Sir Socks as himself

You humans have discovered a new virus that is highly contagious, spreads quickly, and practically none of you have immunity to it. Your scientists are working on a vaccine, but it’s not available now to prevent this crisis.

Some of you humans are on lockdown. I hope you have cats (and you’re not allergic) or even a dog. We can and will keep you from being too lonely. Cats tend to purr and we help you when you’re sick. We will look after you.

If you’re extroverted, a lockdown will be hard on you. You won’t be able to go out unless you have to work or get food or medication. If you don’t live with others, then you can try going into virtual reality. No need to be socially isolated from others in this time of the pandemic.

If you’re introverted, please enjoy your solitude. You probably won’t need to worry about getting any hangovers from over socializing. Don’t forget to talk to your friends and relatives to keep them from getting lonely or feeling forgotten.

Oh, and don’t forget to take care of yourselves and us if you have us to look after. We can’t get this virus from you or give it to you. So, you don’t need to worry about that. Just stay calm and enjoy what time you have.

One more thing to my fellow cats: we need to take care of our devoted human servants or else we could end up back in the Cat Dark Ages. Let’s not go there. Let’s work together for everyone’s survival. We need each other in times like these.

New Website—Same Online Magazine

Sir Socks as himself

So, our part of our experiment has failed on this current site. The one that has to be paid for. (sirsockslechat.com) We didn’t get any charities to promote. One talked to us and then we heard nothing else from them. One just wanted to talk about dogs and forgot about the cats. Others just didn’t plain respond.

We haven’t received donations after we got this paid site up and running. We have no money coming in to pay for this site. We also don’t get enough hits on the site every month to have paid advertising. So, that was also a failure. We do get hits. Just not enough to do these other things we wanted to do with the online magazine.

So, this issue is the last one on this site. The site is going down later this month. (October 2019) However, we still have our backup site at sirsockslechatvideo.blog. So, all the articles will be found there.

We do plan on keeping the magazine going a little while longer. At least long enough to serialize my memoirs. We will still post how many copies Cat Tales of the Frisky9 Scarf Army sells. We also want to put another Cat Tales book about the Ambassacats out to benefit Battersea. Hopefully, Gladstone will be ready to rally the ambassacats as my girl gathers all the information and pictures for the book.

Please continue to enjoy my magazine and my memoirs. There’s still more to come.

Would You Like to be a Part of My Magazine?

It has come to my attention that we may not have enough features every month. We didn’t have any featured monthly cat charities. That makes me sad. As a cat who has needed extra care, I could have ended up just living on the street. Instead my mother raised my three brothers and me in a woodpile in a backyard. We were all taken in by humans who cared for us.

But I can’t honestly say the same happens for others cats. I do know things could have gone differently for Spot if my girl hadn’t brought him home. He’s lucky he had the two of us. I taught him all about being an upstanding cat in today’s world. And what would have happened to Isis if my girl didn’t let her move in? That black cat would have been homeless!

So, if you are interested, then please contact us via the contact page and let us know you would like to have your own featured column and what you want to write about more specifically than just as a cat or about cats. Unfortunately, our funding is so low we cannot pay you, but your voice will be heard. Sometimes that’s all we cats want is for someone to listen to us.

So, if we publish your work, feel free to tell the world. Promote your work and this magazine at the same time. We’re all in this together.

Articles I’ll Be Working On

drawing by Ali Noel Vyain

We’re getting ready for our first official issue of this magazine in January 2019. That means we will transition from what we have been doing to getting ready for the first issue. I will of course write about the monthly financial report. If there’s no money going in and out, then I’ll mention that. I’ll also write about the number of views the site has, the number of email subscribers, and how well the Cat Tales books are doing.

Other articles I will be doing are cat facts, cat quotes, cat vocabulary and sharing my experiences with cats. Sir Socks may write some of these articles as well, but his main focus is his memoirs. The facts, quotes, and vocabulary will be coming from around the world as this magazine and the Cat Tales books are international. We don’t want to leave anyone out.

You readers are allowed to make comments and even suggestions on what you want us to write. We can’t guarantee we’ll write about your suggestions, but we will consider them.

Please enjoy this little magazine named after a shy, sweet, surly, and loyal cat I know well.

Soon…

We’re less than a month away from our official launch! We have so many articles, stories, poems, and pictures to share with all of you fellow cat lovers. Julius will be contributing monthly reports from his empire, and there will be plenty of other content for everyone to enjoy. Stay tuned!

In Light of the GoFundMe Scam…

image from Ali Noel Vyain

I’m not surprised we didn’t get more donations than we have. We’ve had none this month at all. I do know why. It’s because there aren’t enough people who know the staff and they aren’t sure if they can trust us. In this day and age, it’s perfectly understandable.

Recently, there were three people who used GoFundMe to raise money for a story they had made up. They are now in serious trouble. It’s not uncommon for people to scam others. I won’t go into the reasons why people scam others for money. But I will say when these things happen more frequently, it hurts all of us.

So, I’m not upset. There is another option that we already do to help raise money for cat charities. We have the book Cat Tales of the Frisky9 Scarf Army, which raises money for Dingo Venezia, a charity that helps cats in Venice, Italy and the surrounding islands. The book came about because I was interacting with the Cats of Twitter. They were behind the book every step of the way and I helped bring all their stories together. The ebook is still widely available. No money was spent on that project and it has raised US$435.04 and sold 62 copies. All that money has been sent to Dingo Venezia.

We are in the planning stages of another book about the Ambassacats of Twitter. They are led by Gladstone, a cat who came from a local shelter where he still lives, and now works in the treasury department in London, United Kingdom.

I know I’m looking forward to this project. There will be pictures and bios for each cat as there were in the other book. I’m sure Gladstone will want to talk about the Ambassacats and his life story as Frisky Le Rouge did in the book he was featured in.

So, if the only way we can raise money is by selling books, then we can do that. If this site cannot pay for itself before we have to renew the domain name, then we have another domain name we can use that is free. We will let you know if and when we need to make those changes.

Summary for November 2018:
no money in or out
over 400 hits on the blog
88 people get the posts emailed to them
13 people follow via WordPress
62 copies sold; US$435.04 raised for Dingo Venezia from Cat Tales of the Frisky9 Scarf Army

It’s Just an Experiment

This online cat magazine is just an experiment. I don’t know exactly what will happen. I have some ideas of what I would like to get out of it and that’s it. Some of the content I will generate and it will be a discovery even to me.

But it’s not just me. There are currently two other people who are contributing content and I have no idea what they will come up with. I don’t even know what kinds of questions people will ask about cat care and what Laura will answer.

And of course, cats themselves aren’t predictable. Just when you think you know what they will do, they surprise us again and again.

So, right now, I don’t know what surprises Sir Socks has in store with his memoirs, or what surprises Emperor Julius will spring on anyone, but we will all find out soon…
