“Some cats is blind, And stone-deaf some, But ain’t no cat wuz ever dumb.” —Anthony Euwer
Cats aren’t dumb. They are quite intelligent. That’s why they don’t talk all the time. Now if humans could understand that, then perhaps they won’t expect us all to make polite conversation all the time.
“The cat has been described as the most perfect animal, the acme of muscular perfection and the supreme example in the animal kingdom of the coordination of mind and muscle.” —Roseanne Ambrose Brown
Cats are better athletes than I could ever be. They have control over every muscle in their body and all their movements are graceful and elegant. They don’t appear to have to try hard to be like this. They just are.
Ever wonder why cat’s pupils are shaped differently than humans? It allows us to see in low levels of light. We cats can see better and more clearly in the dark than humans can. Having night vision allows us to be nocturnal and hunt prey. It’s sad you can’t see as well as we can. My girl used to walk into me in the dark. I’m glad she told me and apologized about it. So, when she turned out the lights and walked too close to me, I told her and then she didn’t step on me. At least she can hear.
Ordering devoted servants isn’t always easy especially when they don’t understand what you’re asking them. Training can take years. I remember training my girl to take care of me and it wasn’t easy. I had to keep repeating what I needed and wanted until she finally got it. When she did, I no longer had to order her around. She just did whatever I needed her to do. The only thing was that I had to ask for was wet food. She did leave out plenty of dry kibble that I couldn’t eat enough of when I was elderly. So, she gave me wet food whenever I asked. I’m so glad she understood that.
Otherwise, I don’t know what I would have done. She did take care of me quite well and I’m so grateful for that.
A mosaic of fur stretched out on the warm stone, black, tan, white, brown, a veritable jigsaw of interlocking colours, luxuriating in the midsummer sun. Glowing yellow eyes, topaz, burning in the velvet darkness of the midnight garden. Fiery jewels from distant Afghanistan. Shadowy huntress in the moonlit churchyard, feline wraith, with the will to kill; fiercely independent in that unique feline manner. You don’t submit to ownership, or surrender to power. Enigmatic, you disappear for a day or two, just to prove your life’s your own: to take food from a neighbour or shack up in the shed next door. Too old to be romantic, to yowl in a full moon for a handsome prince to win your heart. Local tom cats have learnt to steer clear. In middle age, you have grown a little portly. Yet, this lends you presence, a certain dignity. Uncrowned Queen, you sleep among the roses, or in the deep pools of shadow beneath the pine trees. Old age begins to creep up on you. You deign to sleep on someone’s bed at night. You prefer your meat cut up for you. You sleep, dreaming of mice, rather than catching them. You’re still a fine lady, not a word about your age!
“It is in their eyes that their magic resides.” —Arthur Symons
Cats can be magical. Cats can play with fairies we may not see. Cats know what magic is. That’s why in the Sims, cats always know which sims are witches and which ones are not.
“A cat is a puzzle for which there is no solution.” —Hazel Nicholson
Cats do puzzle many people. I personally don’t care if cats are a puzzle. They make my life much better just by being around. Perhaps the more puzzling thing is why so many of us like to live with cats.
We cats do like to climb trees. It’s fun, but not when we get stuck and unsure of how to get back down to the ground. Then it’s downright terrifying. So, when that happens, we do the most reasonable thing, we call for our humans!
My girl was with Spot when he climbed his first tree. Then he got too high and panicked. He called for her. She calmly urged him to turn around and climb back down. Eventually, he did and she didn’t need to call for professional rescuers.
