Staring

We cats do stare. We’re not ashamed of doing so. We just find everything our humans do quite fascinating. We stare to learn who you are. We stare to learn what we can get away with. We stare without blinking which tends to unnerve people. Especially with our quiet ways. You never know what we are thinking as we stare. Rest assured, we know our favorite humans quite well because we stare at them quite often.

Cat Quote 6:08

graphic by Ali Noel Vyain

“A cat can purr its way out of anything.” —Donna McCrohan

I love it when cats purr. It’s so comforting and feels good. Cats are quite adorable when they purr, it’s no wonder they can get out of anything they so choose. They know how to wrap us around their little paws and get their way every time they choose.

“My cat does not talk as respectfully to me as I do to her.” —Colette

Cats don’t use any form of formality or politeness. They are blunt and direct to the point. It’s one of the many things I love about them. I know they don’t play games unless they are playful. When playful, they aren’t interested in hurting me or getting their way at my expense.

Personality

graphic by Ali Noel Vyain

As my girl can tell you, we cats have our own individual personality. We don’t act exactly like all other cats. We have differences just like you humans. Researchers in the UK have determined we cats have five different personality types. Nervous, bossy, outgoing, spontaneous and agreeable.

I don’t recall living with any nervous cats, unless you mean me. I liked to have a safe space to hide. Or am I bossy? I know I can be quite assertive when it comes to my needs and wants. I know I’m definitely not outgoing. I like my alone time too much. Spontaneous—uh, could that be Spot and Isis and Nuri? They are quite playful. I don’t know where they got all that energy from. It tended to drive me crazy. And finally, there is agreeable. That definitely wasn’t me. Those are probably the cats who as kittens were socialized by cats and humans alike and are easy to get along with.

With our personalities, I can see why it’s hard to live with just one cat at a time. No wonder it’s all too easy for many humans to opt for more than one cat.

Personality is something many cats have and it makes them unique instead of them acting exactly alike.

Watching

We cats do love to watch humans, birds, squirrels, bunnies and other small critters outside our windows. Windows to the outside world are like tv to us. We can watch others for hours without blinking. Everyone is quite entertaining to watch. We don’t get many pleasures other than dreaming, so watching everyone else is a real joy.

Age

Adult cats age about four years to every one year for humans.

Cat Quotes 6:07

graphic by Ali Noel Vyain

“A cat is there when you call her—if she doesn’t have something better to do.” —Bill Adler

Sure, we can call cats to us when we want them, but if they are busy, then they won’t show up. It’s just the way it is. It’s better to wait until they come to you and then it’s wonderful. Cats are just that independent.

“Since each of us is blessed with only one life, why not live it with a cat?” —Robert Stearns

I can certainly agree. After living with cats for quite a long time, I can’t stand to live without one. I am heartbroken when they die, but I let them go and go search for another cat to keep me company. Usually one comes along.

Age

graphic by Ali Noel Vyain

Cats age faster than humans. I know it’s something my girl has always been aware of. She decided to just go with it and enjoy the time she has with us. Seems to me it worked out well for her.

Kittens and adult cats age at different rates. Kittens that are a year old are about 15 years old in human years. And once kittens are fully grown adults at two years old are about 24 years old in human years. After that, adult cats age four years per one human year.
