Deaf

Sometimes cats are born deaf or lose their hearing from other causes. As a cat I can tell you, hearing is quite important for us. It helps us to hear our prey or hear what our humans tell us. Without hearing, cats can’t hear their humans talking. But if the environment is safe and the deaf cat stays indoors, they can have a good life. They can feel vibrations and see movement. So, humans might have to tread louder so the cat knows they are approaching.

Deaf cats especially like to be up high so they can survey their territory easily. Cats in general like to be up high, but it can be safer for a deaf cat to be able to get up high easily. Or if they live with another cat who can hear, they can rely on the other cat for visual cues.

So, if you find you have a deaf cat, make sure they have a safe high place they can get to and tread loud. Don’t forget to pet them. They will still like the affection as we all do.

Cat Quotes 3:04

There’s no need for a piece of sculpture in a home that has a cat. —Wesley Bates

Cats are indeed quite beautiful. I’d prefer a live one to any piece of sculpture, which cats could easily break when they play with it. I don’t have any knickknacks anymore because Spot used to knocked them off the floor.

Cats’ hearing apparatus is built to allow the human voice to easily go in one ear and out the other. —Stephen Baker

It can seem as if cats just let human voices go through without paying that much attention to what we say. Too many humans say a lot without meaning much of anything at all. That’s probably why cats tune us out.

Cats’ hearing apparatus is built to allow the human voice to easily go in one ear and out the other. —Stephen Baker

It would certainly appear so. But don’t be fooled. Cats might just be ignoring you. Or perhaps they didn’t like what you said to them. Sometimes it’s just hard to judge their reactions to us all the time.

Prowling his own quiet backyard or asleep by the fire, he is still only a whisker away from the wilds. —Jean Burden

I can’t say I understand why some people insist cats are domesticated. They aren’t. They have fooled you if you believe it. My cat son adored me and seemed very tamed. That is until he hid in the grass as the big cats do.

Eyes

Our eyes have been known to creep out quite a few people. You can’t see us very well in the dark, but you might see our reflected eyes staring right at you. Sounds scary?

I never thought I was scary unless I was hunting. Otherwise, I was just a cat who was lying in the sun or meditating or complaining to someone who cared to listen to me.

My girl admitted to me that she couldn’t see as well as I could in the dark. She said when she turned out the lights, she couldn’t see me anymore. She used to walk into me. She apologized every time, thank goodness. I’d really be mad if she had done it on purpose and didn’t care to apologize for her behavior.

So, I did what any reasonable cat would do. Whenever she turned out the lights and she walked too close to me, I’d let her know where I was. It worked. Her hearing is better than her eyesight. Yes, she wears glasses. She wears lined bifocals now. She didn’t then. But that’s another story.

I’m glad she listened to me. She was able to walk around in the dark without stepping on me. That just proves it is possible to train your human to take excellent care of you. Just find one who will listen to your every complaint and does something to make things better. Those are the kinds of humans who are worth waiting for.
