Laughing

Laughing is something some cats do. They play happily and will laugh as they are playing. They laugh when they are around their favorite human. They are the kind of cats who have to play and love to be around others. They tend to be much more outgoing than I am. Cat laughter doesn’t sound like human laughter. It’s quieter, but can still be recognized as such.

Toxoplasmosis

I never knew my waste could cause my girl trouble. There is a disease called Toxoplasmosis which humans can get from cleaning up cat infected wastes. My girl usually is very good about cleaning out the litter boxes everyday. If she didn’t it would give the disease causing parasite a chance to cause problems in anyone without a good immune system. Vets will caution humans with weak immune systems or those who are pregnant. One way to help prevent this parasite from causing any problems is by cleaning out the litter box or tray everyday and washing their hands afterwards.

I don’t want my girl or other human servants to get sick. So, please clean out the litter box or tray often. I know I appreciate a clean box. It does get full when there are others who use it too. I strongly urge you to not forget so you don’t get sick. Oh, and wash your hands when you’re done. That’s another good way to stop the spread of disease.

Top 5 YouTube Cats

Happy November, dear readers!

As a change of pace from our usual Epistles from the Emperor, Julius and I are counting down our top 5 favorite cat YouTubers for this month’s article. It probably comes as no surprise that one of our favorite–or at least, my favorite–pastimes is watching cat videos on YouTube. (I don’t know if Julius appreciates videos of other cats, but he does like videos of mice.)

Over years of cat video-curating, I have come across a number of online cat personalities that have purred their way into my favorites list. Here’s my top 5 cats I love to watch on YouTube!

P.S. The opinions expressed in this article are completely my own. Neither I nor anyone at Sir Socks Le Chat has any association, affiliation, or other such relationship with any of the YouTubers/YouTube channels listed in this article.

#5. Teddy the Honking Cat

No list of favorite online cats would be complete without Teddy! Most famous for the unique “honk” he uses to communicate with his human mom, Teddy is an adorable oriental shorthair cat who stars alongside his brothers in videos on their mom’s channel. Teddy is just a delight to watch. His unique facial expressions make him look like he is taking life very seriously — and he isn’t afraid to let his human know what he wants! Teddy can often be seen snuggling with his brothers, exploring (and getting stuck in) various places around the house, and showing off some of his cat-ittude. You will never forget Teddy once you watch him!

#4. Caesar

Hailing from one of YouTube’s smaller cat channels, Caesar the tabby cat has gained some recognition for the conversations he has with his human mom on camera. Showing off his honest-to-goodness tabby attitude, Caesar is a delight to watch, and he’s adorable to boot. He often appears in videos alongside his other cat siblings, and it’s fun to see the kitties interact together and play (and play-fight). Other videos of Caesar feature him partaking in typical cat activities, such as enjoying paper bags and boxes and sleeping in adorable positions. But Caesar is best known for being an avid conversationalist! I think he makes some very important points, don’t you?

#3. Minnie

Minnie always puts a smile on my face! This cute little white-socked tabby of “Want a cookie?” fame is just so adorably sweet that it’s impossible not to love her! She has such a beautiful relationship with her people and her canine sibling — it always puts me in such a good mood to watch their videos. Minnie often can be seen snuggling with her humans, giving and receiving kisses, and demonstrating her enthusiasm for canned tuna (and “cookies“). She is just beautiful through and through and is sure to become a favorite for anyone who likes cute cat videos.

#2. Thurston Waffles

This fluffy white little monster shot to fame last year thanks to a well-circulated meme of his distinctively loud and dramatic meowing (affectionally called “shrimping” by his human parents). Thurston the “shrimp king” is a wonderfully over-the-top bundle of evil, mischief, and confidence, all wrapped up in the most fluffy white coat you could ever imagine. Aside from his dramatic arias, Thurston also likes to demand that his dad take him on walks, manipulate his humans to heed his every command, and scratch everything in sight. Thurston’s antics never fail to make me laugh, and his dad puts so much effort into each video that they often feel like works of art in and of themselves. We love ya, Thurston!

#1. Butters the Bean

It’s no surprise that I have a soft spot for orange cats. (Blame Julius, not me.) Taking the number one spot in this lineup is none other than Butters the Bean, a delightfully pudgy orange and white tabby cat with more than enough personality for his frame. What’s not to love about this cat? He’s pudgy, he’s sassy, and he’s sweet, and his humans lovingly attend to his every need with the heartwarming love and devotion that every cat deserves. His mom posts multiple videos a day, with uploads consisting of lots of beautiful cat close ups, meow fests, and unboxings of cat toys. Butters is always the star of the show, unapologetically himself in all his round regal glory, and we love him for it!

What did you think of this list? Do you have other favorites that weren’t mentioned here? Let us know in the comments below!

Limber

graphic by Ali Noel Vyain

Cats tend to be limber. We can stretch in ways which astound any human we live with. It makes my girl remark how well we can do yoga without being taught. One reason why we are so limber is because we have a lot of little bones which creates a lot of joints. All those bones allow us to stretch and lay in positions humans can’t. So, humans, be amazed. We’ll keep at it and entertain you some more and convince you we are the best creatures in the world.

Cat Quotes 3:11

In the beginning, God created man, but seeing him so feeble, He gave him the cat. —Warren Eckstein

Of course God gave us cats to guide us and teach us better social skills. Who better than to teach us than cats? With their emotional honesty and simple view of the world, I’ve learned more from them than living with humans.

There are few things in life more heartwarming than to be welcomed by a cat. —Tay Hohoff

When cats aren’t ignoring me, it is a real blessing to be greeted by them when I get home. Any cat I’ve lived with is usually quite happy to see me when I get back to their house, especially if I’ve been gone for hours.

Living in a Shelter

drawing by Ali Noel Vyain

From what I hear from cats who have been in shelters, some are good and some are bad. Some shelters kill cats if they been in them too long and no one has adopted them. Others keep on taking care of the cats no matter what.

The point of shelters is to keep cats off the streets and give them a chance to have a home of their own. It’s not a fool proof system. The best any cat can do is to appear their cutest to attract a human caretaker.

I wish we could have had featured charities such as cat shelters. Then we could present some of the cats who are trying to get adopted. It would give the cats a change at a better life, but sadly no one has taken me up on it.

So, to those cats who are living in shelters, may you get claimed by the best human servants for you. May you learn how wonderful some humans can be and how much they will love and adore you for the rest of your lives.

Head Butts

graphic from Ali Noel Vyain

When a cat approaches a human and head butts the human, it’s a form of affection. It’s a way for the cat to tell the human how they feel. It is just one of the many things a cat will do to a human to tell the human the cat loves them. It’s not a form of abuse. Cats tend to play rough each other and their favorite humans. Cats tend to treat their favorite humans as honorary cats. That’s why cats give their favorite humans head butts.

Epistles from…the dog?!

No description available.

Hi there! I’m Lenny! They told me to make a post this month and I don’t know what to write about but I’m going to do my best! I’m supposed to write all about my big brother Julius and how much I love him! Did I mention my name is Lenny?

I’m the only dog in the house, but that doesn’t bother me! I have my humans and my big brother with me so I am the happiest dog in the whole wide world! Julius calls himself the emperor but I just think of him as my very best friend! I love to run around and play with him all day. I chase him and he hides under the couch and then he swats at me and we have so much fun together! Sometimes he hurts me with his claws, but it’s okay because I know it was an accident. He loves me just like I love him — he doesn’t always know how to show it!

When I first came here, he didn’t like me very much, but I knew we were going to be best friends right away! I thought he was so grown-up and smart and wonderful that I followed him around all day watching everything he did so I could learn to be big and smart just like he is! My big brother is fun to have around — not only do we get to play chase and hide-and-seek, we also do other fun things together, like nap, sit around in the sunlight, and hang out on the couch. I like to show him my toys, although he doesn’t seem to find them as interesting as I do, but that’s okay! He lets me play with his toys sometimes and I have so much fun! Recently he has also been letting me sleep in bed with him, and we get to all snuggle together in a big warm bunch and it feels safe and cozy like a den!

Although we have fun together, sometimes I get sad because Julius doesn’t want to play with me. I wish he would go on walks with me, but he likes to stay by himself at home. He often ignores me and disappears high above in places I can’t reach. Sometimes he can even be a little mean, but I still love my big brother Julius very much. He is the best big brother in the whole wide world, and I’m glad he’s mine!

Showing Affection

graphic by Ali Noel Vyain

Too many humans believe we cats are aloof and don’t show affection. As a shy cat, I don’t show any affection to strangers. I will show affection to my girl and other cats I’ve learned to live with. I tend to do so by rubbing up against those I love. Or licking their faces. Cleaning their fur or hair. Even head butting is a way to show affection. If you’re not sure, just let the cat get to know you first and treat them well. Sooner or later they will get affectionate with you.

Cat Quotes 3:10

graphic by Ali Noel Vyain

You can’t own a cat. The best you can do is be partners. —Sir Harry Swanson

To me cats are people. People cannot be owned. Ergo, cats can’t be owned and they know it. But we can be partners and share our lives together.

There are no ordinary cats. —Colette

Each cat is special. Many may have things in common with each other, but none are exactly the same. It doesn’t matter if the coats are identical, they aren’t the same. They are extraordinary in their own way. Each cat who has shared their life with mine have all shown me how extraordinary they can be.
