Who can believe that there is no soul behind those luminous eyes! —Theophile Gautier
Of course cats have souls. I know after living with cats for decades. I’ve looked and cats do stare without blinking. I know they look deep into others’ souls and the souls of humans. How else could they decide who will be their servants?
If you are worthy of its affection, a cat will be your friend, but never your slave. —Theophile Gautier
Cats aren’t slaves or property in any way. They know this. They do become fond of certain humans and befriend those they like. But cats never submit to humans as slaves or property. Cats still retain a simple dignity while bestowing their affection on those worthy of it.
If hissing and growling are ignored, then screaming happens which then leads into a fight. Cat fights aren’t a good thing. I’ve been in too many and I know from experience they can be bad and hard to recover from. I lost part of my ear from a bad fight. Perhaps my girl is right and thinks fighting should be avoided as much as possible.
However, we cats do have a right to defend ourselves from bad humans. Treat us with respect and we won’t fight you. Don’t put us in cages and demand we submit to your tyranny or else we will fight you. We have natural built in weapons that you don’t have.
As a cat who has lived indoors and outdoors, I can say it’s wonderful to have servants tending to my every need. It’s rough living outside. Inside it’s possible to have at least one good servant taking care of one. However, finding the right one can take a long time. I know when I finally found the right one, I had to train her as she didn’t know much about taking care of cats.
I’m glad I took the trouble to train her. She turned out to be the best one to take care of me. She was a little whirlwind who had turned my world upside down, and she loved me well (and still does). It is possible to have more than one servant. But one servant is better than none at all. One good servant is still better than lots who don’t have the least idea of what we cats need.
I’m a cat. I never had an owner who was human. I only had servants. I do hope humans can remember we cats are people and not objects to be owned. Hence why humans tend to become our servants and not the other way around.
The fact that I have to say cats are people indicates a serious problem in this world. As a cat, I watch humans and can’t understand why you seem to think it’s okay to fight among yourselves to decide who gets medical treatment and decent food to eat. Those same prejudicial humans like to assert cats are objects to be owned and not people at all.
Those humans have no idea how wrong they are. It’s your thinking which is wrong and deranged. It’s the kind of thinking which leads to serious illnesses. I can be sneaky. I’m so quiet and stealthful that I don’t have to deal with you. I can avoid you and I do.
That is why I am glad I was blessed with someone like my girl. She never gave me a hard time for being a cat. If anything, she accepted me as I am and encouraged me to become braver. She saw the good in me and encouraged me to be better. I did the same for her. I taught her about unconditional love and she has never forgotten those lessons.
Cats are people and so is my girl. I’m not sure I want to consider prejudicial humans to be people because they refuse to consider me a person. My girl considers me a person as she does all cats. She knows we are not objects to be owned.
Oh, and my girl has told me she has had to tell humans similar things about her. She knows she’s a person and not an object to be owned by anyone else. No wonder we get along so well.
