Cat Quotes 4:04

By associating with the cat, one only risks becoming richer. —Colette

Of course we are richer with love and affection from a cat. A cat’s blessing and approval are worth gaining as real riches. Who could say no to that?

Intelligence in the cat is underrated. —Louis Wain

Perhaps it’s because humans tend to underrate those who are quiet and thoughtful. Cats don’t feel the need to demonstrate their intelligence. They aren’t looking for approval from anyone. They know they can just be and that is everything to them.

#5. Reverse Card

We all love our cats here at Sir Socks Le Chat, but the near-ubiquitous feline habit of cutting into their human’s early morning beauty sleep can be undeniably annoying more often than not. April Fool’s is the perfect day to consider planning a prank that will turn the tables — perhaps Kitty never appreciated what being woken up at 4am is like?

#4. There can only be two of us

Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction — I don’t know how I would react if someone brought home a doppelganger of me, but this cat handles it remarkable well. Hopefully it isn’t having existential nightmares later.

#3. Behind you

You never know where surprises are going to come from! You have to keep your eyes wide open at all times — and look out behind you too!

#2. Off-season surprises

It might not be Christmastime anymore, but pranks (intentional or unintentional) can happen at any time of the year. If I were this cat, I would have been startled too — pretty terrifying home decor! Skip to 0:45 to see the big event if you’re short on time.

Top 5 YouTube Cats: Spring Edition

photo by Niklas Ohlrogge on Unsplash

Happy March, dear readers!

It is starting to feel like springtime at casa Julius, with a warm buzz in the air and blue skies and little delicious flower buds sprouting from the soil. (Sadly, Julius’ primary human has yet to give in and grow a catnip plant in the garden — maybe next year. The petition continues.) Despite the lack of royal catnip, His Highness always manages to enjoy the spring. Long hours sunning himself in open windows, breathing in fresh air, watching birds…spring is a special time for kitty-cats!

While Julius watches birds and smells the flowers this season, what are other springtime cats doing? Here’s our list of 5 YouTube cats to watch when we want to feel the spring spirit and enjoy the warming air like Julius is!

#5.

Cats seem have impeccable taste when it comes to finding the perfect flower to delicately sniff…and perhaps do a little more to. In this video, we see two feline flower connoisseurs carefully smelling and sampling the latest that spring has to offer. Nothing is cuter than watching those little noses inspecting the latest offering.

(Be safe, obviously, and don’t leave your pets unattended with plants. Many flowers are toxic to cats.)

#4.

Cat video lovers will probably be familiar with this channel (walter santi), which is bursting full of videos showing the little cat haven the creator has made for so many adorable and wonderful kitties. Here, we get to see the walter santi crew enjoying themselves in their best feline fashion in the warm sun — playful, happy, and carefree.

#3.

What list would be complete without an appearance from our favorite, Butters the Bean? Some cat connoisseurs specialize in flower-tasting, others prefer to sample spring in other ways, such as modeling. Here we see the handsome Butters showing off some high spring fashion. Who doesn’t look good in a flower crown?

#2.

Some cats really want to share the love of spring — and love in general — with others. Some secret admirers might be off-putting or worrisome, but I can’t think of a better one than a sweet-hearted, generous cat.

#1.

As beautiful as spring might be, sometimes we might not be entirely in the springtime spirit yet. This final video is a lighthearted note to end on for those of us who might not be entirely pumped about the arrival of spring. Sometimes we just need six more weeks of hibernation and staying warm and cozy inside!

Regardless of whether you are welcoming spring or still settled in winter, Emperor Julius sends his good wishes and hopes all of you stay warm and well. Talk to you next time!

Playmate

For kittens and those cats who remain playful as adults, having a playmate is a good thing. I didn’t mind playing so much when I was a kitten. It was how my brothers and I learned how to fight and how to play without hurting each other. It can be a good way to deal with tensions with other cats without killing each other. Just a playful way of letting others know you’re a bit annoyed, but won’t actually attack and cause harm.

I know I enjoyed having Spot around after I had gotten used to him. We used to play and wrestle to my girl’s delight. She found it entertaining because we didn’t hurt each other. If things had gotten to the point of screaming, she would have gotten involved and separated us. She never tolerated that. I can’t say I blame her that.

Lily is Old & Cranky

Lily is getting older and doesn’t feel great much of the time. It can happen to any cat. We all age and sooner or later we do feel old. My girl just hopes we still get to experience good health too. She doesn’t mind if we slow down and require some humoring now and then. She’s good at taking care of us. She just doesn’t want us to get sick.

Lily has digestive issues and that can’t be helping with her mood. So, she gets cranky at times. My girl knows that and so doesn’t hurt Lily whenever she poops or throws up on the floor. Sometimes my girl gets upset and will scold Lily gently. Lily tends to play dumb and pretend she doesn’t understand.

At other times, Lily tries to complain about Nuri even though Nuri isn’t doing anything at all. Or Lily will hiss at my girl for seemingly no reason at all. It’s no wonder that my girl just walks away and lets Lily complain. Unlike the complains I gave my girl, Lily’s tend to be worthless and not things my girl can fix.

So, in her teens, Lily is allowed to be old and cranky. It’s a good thing her favorite human is aging too. They can grow old together and get cranky together as much as they want.

Playmate

In my experience, cats tend to do better when they have a playmate their own size. A playmate can be anyone who plays with a cat without hurting them. A playmate is willing to play all the games a cat wants to play while giving them companionship and exercise.

Cat Quotes 4:03

Most cats, when they are Out want to be In, and vice versa, and often simultaneously. —Louis F. Camuti, DVM

Obviously, cats want to defy physics and be in two places at once. A closed door drives them nuts. They have to know what’s on both sides at the same time. I know this and when the cat doesn’t want to come into a room, I just nearly close the door. They come into the room every time wondering why I nearly shut the door on them.

The phrase “domestic cat” is an oxymoron. —George F. Will

Only someone who hasn’t lived with a cat would ever call them a “domestic cat.” They have no idea how wild cats can be especially when they don’t think any humans are watching them. The cats night prowl and get up to all sorts of capers while we sleep. Often leaving behind traces such as used litter boxes and less food and water left into their bowls.

Nuri Still Wants to Play

At eight years old, Nuri still likes to play. She tries to play with Lily and that doesn’t go over very well. Lily doesn’t like to play and thinks and insists Nuri is trying to attack her royal highness. So, my girl does the best thing she can do. She plays with Nuri. My girl tells Lily she plays with Nuri to protect her royal highness. Lily still doesn’t like it. If she had her way, Nuri wouldn’t be around.

My girl won’t agree to any such terms as she and Nuri are a bonded pair. Only death can separate them now. So, Lily isn’t sure what is going on. Clearly, Lily is an older cat and somewhat cranky. She doesn’t have to play at her age, but Nuri needs the exercise. So, Nuri go ahead and play as much as you want.

Cat Quotes 4:02

The cat is domestic only as far as suits its own ends. —Saki (H. H. Munro)

I’ve live with cats for too long to believe they are domesticated. Time and time again they prove to me they aren’t. They run around like crazy. They knock books off the bookcase. They jump on all the furniture. Clearly they demonstrate they aren’t domesticated.

We cannot without becoming cats, perfectly understand the cat mind. —St. George Mivart

I’ve tried to understand the cat mind. I don’t think I’ve fully gotten it yet. But I do know that not all cats are exactly the same. They have different personalities and have different reactions to the same situations.

Servants

graphic by Ali Noel Vyain

As a cat who has lived indoors and outdoors, I can say it’s wonderful to have servants tending to my every need. It’s rough living outside. Inside it’s possible to have at least one good servant taking care of one. However, finding the right one can take a long time. I know when I finally found the right one, I had to train her as she didn’t know much about taking care of cats.

I’m glad I took the trouble to train her. She turned out to be the best one to take care of me. She was a little whirlwind who had turned my world upside down, and she loved me well (and still does). It is possible to have more than one servant. But one servant is better than none at all. One good servant is still better than lots who don’t have the least idea of what we cats need.

I’m a cat. I never had an owner who was human. I only had servants. I do hope humans can remember we cats are people and not objects to be owned. Hence why humans tend to become our servants and not the other way around.
